Our Approach to Nature

At Tree of Life Preschool (ToL), our children are outside more than they are inside. They play and learn and explore the outdoors during all types of weather. Our teachers are master naturalists and nature enthusiasts, highly qualified to speak to the natural world around them. Walking into our classrooms, you will see natural learning materials of rocks, leaves, and acorns. Children are busy, working independently, or in small groups. Then they don their rain pants, waterproof boots and mittens, and head outside for a guided walk on the nature trail or to play freely around the campus.

Built under the direction of master naturalists, landscapers, architects, and education experts, we have two beautifully and intentionally designed outdoor playspaces. These spaces feature large natural logs to crawl over, rocks to hide behind, natural building materials, large stepping stones, and planters for water play; our children create, question, and design their own worlds.

Nature is primal, and a true provider. Nature provides vocabulary, organization, arithmetic, geometry, and history. Nature is our guide and our main vehicle for learning.
